Vodakva uses different types of billing water meters. The size of the water meter depends on the quantity of used water. You can find the size of your water meter in every water bill or on the customer card which is the annex of water supply and wastewater treatment contract.

The water meter is protected against unauthorized manipulation by a seal. There is also water meter calibration mark validity (6-year period). Water meters are generally replaced after 6 years of its operation, this replacement is free of charge.

Only the company staff is authorized to manipulate water meter and water piping next to the stop tap inside the house. If a damage to water meter seal occurs, the company will charge customers. If there is any problem with water metering, please inform the relevant company operations center.

Water meter readings

Water meters are read by the company staff generally in 6-month periods. Persons who take water meter readings are provided with service identification cards and must prove their identity with this card if requested. If you have any doubts call central control room (24 hours a day). If you can’t be at your place for the meter reading, please send water meter reading to the company (send meter reading). The water meter must be read at least once a year by the company staff.

Please make the water meter accessible to the company staff all year round.

How to protect water meters

Meters are generally fitted in the cave next to the house foot or in a water meter shaft. Conditions of water meter installation are set by the operator in accordance with the law. In case that the water piping of the house is not suitable for installation, please make required changes in the house or garden connected to the public network within a reasonable time after having received a written demand from the company. In case that the water meter is fitted in a shaft, the customer as the owner of this shaft has to take care of it.

Please do not forget that the water meter must be protected against a mechanical or thermal damage. If this kind of damage occurs, the company will charge customers costs related to the water meter replacement or repair.

How to protect water meters against frost?

If the water meter is outside the house (in a water-meter shaft):
- before winter check whether the shaft is properly closed
- insulate the shaft cover
- in case of great frost provide also the water meter and the pipe in the outer shaft with the thermal insulation

If the water meter is inside the house:
- the chamber where water meter is fitted must be protected from cold air (for example from a broken window).

Water meter testing

If you doubt the accuracy of metering and you are the owner of the house where the water meter is fitted, you can ask in writing at the address of Vodakva to check it. Then, the water meter will be read and removed in the presence of the customer by company staff and sent to an authorized metrology centre for testing. We will notify you of the test results on the basis of the report issued by the metrology centre. If the metering does not comply with the requirement specified by Czech standards, the company will pay the costs related to the tests. Your water bill will be corrected, according to the previous consumption in a comparable period of last year, for the only billing period which precedes the date of submitting the objection.
