Laboratory analysis

Laboratory Březová is the central laboratory of Vodakva. It performs chemical/physical and bacteriological analysis of drinking water, surface and ground waters.

The laboratory's main activity is to check the quality of drinking water during its production, from the ground sources and during its distribution through the water supply network to the customer.

The laboratory also controls the cleaning processes of wastewaters and their quality at the moment of discharge in the receiving bodies.

The laboratory has set up a quality control system according to Czech and European standard ISO/IEC 17025, approved by the Czech Institute of Accreditation (Accreditation of laboratory n° 1443).

The laboratory is regularly inspected by this institution. To perform analysis the laboratory uses standard methods and equipment.

The laboratory also offers to customers analytical services for water and wastewater as following:

• basic chemical and physical testing of drinking water
• bacteriological and hydro-biological testing of drinking, surface and ground waters
• testing of drinking water for construction purposes
• analysis of wastewater

Analytical services

Basic chemical and physical testing of drinking water

pH, electrical conductivity, sediment, color, turbidity, acid-neutralization capacity below ph pH 4,5, base-neutralization capacity below pH 8,3, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, chlorides, fluorides, chlorines, bicarbonates, free carbon dioxide, ammonia ions, sulfides, dissolved inorganic phosphorus, nitrites, permanganate oxidability and total mineralization

Bacteriological and hydro-biological testing of drinking, surface and ground waters

Bacteriology (Microbiology) –
coli form and coli form fecal bacteria, enterococci, microorganism cultivated at 22°C and 37°C, Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli – the extent of testing according to your testing needs and legal requirements.

Hydrobiology – microscopic image (drinking water), bioseston (ground and surface water), abioseston.

Bacteriological testing of drinking water – coli form bacteria, enterococci, mesofilic bacteria, psychrofilic bacteria, coli form fecal bacteria if required.

Testing of drinking water for construction purposes
pH, conductivity, KNK - 4, 5, CO2 - corrosive, total hardness, Ca, Mg, SO42-, NH4+

Analysis of wastewater
COD-Cr; BOD5; pH; all forms of nitrogen and phosphorus; determination of dissolved and solid matters; dry and calcite matters and other testing according to the decision of an environmental authority. Other special tests are performed by certified subcontractors.

Sample collection and receipt

The sample testing for customers is preformed on the basis of written orders.

Samples of drinking water and wastewater must be collected only in special containers, which are available directly at the laboratory Březová or at the Central Control Room of Vodakva. An information sheet should be completed for each sample to obtain proper identification (you will receive the form with the sample containers).

The sample containers with drinking water are being received at the Laboratory or at the Central Control Room in Doubí. The containers with wastewaters are being received at the Laboratory or at the Sewage Treatment Plant Karlovy Vary - Drahovice.

In case of interest the Laboratory staff can also collect samples for an extra charge.

Sample Receipt Centers:

 * Note:

For the region of Tachov and Stříbro the sample containers are available on Monday and Tuesday in the Stříbro operations center, Sokolská 958. However, it is better to phone first on 374 616 162 or 606 621 314. Here you can also receive information how to collect samples, when and where to deliver it for testing. Samples for microbiological analysis have to be delivered to the laboratory on Wednesday until 12.00 at the very latest!
